just getting internet access again. as we speak, adrian is in the intensive care unit at cornell/new-york presbyterian across the street from sloan (this is standard for this kind of operation). his recovery will likely be at least a few days in the icu at cornell/nyp, then back to sloan.

dr. laquaglia confirmed that the tumor was removed with what appears (at least at this time) clear margins---really, the best we were hoping for in terms of removal. apparently it was still a bit of a monster tumor. so glad it is now out.

amazing, amazing things these surgeons do in a day's work. thank you, dr. laquaglia and all others involved.

lots of love to adrian tonight and over the next few days of recovery. lots of love to erin and matt, too. and to all of you reading this. xo

4:45pm
phew. the tumor is out with CLEAR MARGINS! this is what we wanted to hear. the "margins" refer to the area surrounding the tumor and indicates how much of the cancer that traveled from the tumor to the tissues immediately surrounding it and cannot be surgically removed. "clear margins" means they were able to remove the tumor leaving no residual cancerous cells in the surrounding tissues. thank god.

adrian is still expected to be in surgery for several more hours. we will have a full report from dr. laquaglia when he is done and i will try to post again then.

thank you for continuing to check in and for keeping the little guy in your thoughts.

2:30pm
sorry for the delay in writing; i should have known it might be sometime before there was anything to report.

everything started a little later than expected. anesthesia at 10am, then surgery started 11:30.

first word from the operating room came at 2:30pm saying that all was going as planned. at that point, all the work that had been done was what they refer to as "excavation," removing all "structures" that are in the way of the tumor, and immobilizing it for the upcoming work. not much else to report at this time.
